Septarian nodules are concretions that were formed out of Aragonite, Barite, Calcite and Limestone around 50 - 70 million years ago. The name comes from the Latin 'septum', referring to the cracks in the rock, whilst the alternative name Dragon Stone comes from a Malagasy legend which told of the dragons that used to roam the earth long ago, and when they died their bodies fossilised and remained in the earth..
