Hiddenite is the green variety of the crystal Spodumene coloured by Chromium and the rarest colour to find. The town of Hiddenite in North Carolina where the mineral was first found was originally called White Plains, but it changed its name to Hiddenite after the gem was registered. Hiddenite was named after William Earl Hidden in 1881, an American mineral collector.
