Copper

Copper is a metal rather than a crystal, and has been used for over 10,000 years by civilizations across the world. It is actually the third most abundant trace mineral in the body, and we need 3 milligrams of copper a day in our diets. Copper bracelets are also frequently recommended by people to help with arthritis and joint pain, even by those who have no interest in the metaphysical. Copper was one of the first metals to be worked, and was used to create mirrors among other items, and it was associated with the Greek Goddess Aphrodite due to its bright, beautiful colour. The name copper also comes from Greek, the word 'kyprios' or Cyprus, the location of ancient copper mines. Although the metal is a bright colour when first worked, it will tarnish to green or black upon prolonged exposure to the air. Such was the case with the Statue of Liberty in New York, which was covered in bright copper when first constructed, which has weathered to the famous green colour we see today.

Copper is a strong conductor of energy, making it an excellent crystal to use with other stones. It has been used as a healing mineral since ancient times, and is believed to have a lucky energy associated with it. Copper is also used for stabilising energy, making it a useful tool in balancing emotions and thought processes.
