Chrysoprase is a gem variety of Chalcedony that is a bright green colour, which is caused by trace Nickel. Darker shades are also known simply as 'Prase', and are a popular jewellery gem. It has a very distinctive, almost glowing colour, and the Greeks associated it with their Goddess of Love, Aphrodite as her sacred colour was green. This crystal gets its name from a Greek word which translates to 'golden apple' or 'golden leek'.
