Blue Chalcedony is a variety of Chalcedony, a microcrystalline Quartz. The blue colour is believed to be caused not by an inclusion within the crystal, but rather by the Tyndall effect, a light scattering phenomena. When lit from behind, the blue colour disappears and instead it appears a soft yellow. Although Blue Chalcedony can be found in various places around the world, the best quality is currently being mined in Turkey.
