Banded Calcite is a name given to any striped or otherwise banded form of the mineral Calcite, although most seen on the market are from Pakistan or Mexico. These are often in shades of green/white/yellow, and are sold as Onyx, despite Onyx actually being a name for a black and white banded Agate. This confusion is thought to have originally come from the building trade, who sell large slabs of banded Calcite with the trade name Onyx for use in kitchens and bars.
