Description

Unearthed from the fossil-rich Kem Kem Beds of Morocco and dating back around 95 million years to the Cretaceous, this small theropod claw is often described as a “raptor” claw an exciting term that captures the imagination of fossil lovers young and old. However, the true identity of these claws remains uncertain, and they are best described as Theropod indet. (indeterminate theropod).

While the classic "raptor" label remains popular for familiarity, there is currently no definitive evidence that dromaeosaurs, or true "raptors", existed in this part of Africa during the Late Cretaceous. Instead, theropods such as abelisaurids are better represented in the region’s fossil record and may have filled similar roles. As such, many sellers use “raptor” as a shorthand for these agile, meat-eating dinosaurs.

Perfect for display, education, or as a unique gift, you will receive the exact claw pictured.

Without more diagnostic material, it is not possible to confidently assign this claw to any specific group or species. For now, “indeterminate theropod” remains the most accurate and scientifically honest classification.
