Sugilite is usually seen as a bright purple crystal, often polished for use in jewellery. It is named after Ken-ici Sugi who first discovered it in Japan in 1994. A variety of transparent gemmy purple Sugilite crystals have the name Wesselite after the Wessel Manganese Mine where they were found in South Africa.
