Please note that as crystals and minerals are natural, they may not be as perfect as glass or man-made replicas. Softer stones in particular such as jet and satin spar have natural marks on them, so please handle them gently.

Large Polished Nautilus #1

Dimensions
Weight: 846g
Size: 123mm
x 93mm
Description
This beautiful polished Nautilus is from Madagascar, and has been poloshed to reveal the calcified internal structure with some of the outer shell still visible in the deep sections of the spiral. You can see the opening of the siphuncle on the curved internal chamber face, the tube the creature once used to aid with boyancy. You will receive the exact fossil in the photo.
Madagascar is famous for both nautilus and ammonite fossils, but they have a few differences to help tell them apart! While ammonites often have complex, jagged patterns (sutures) on their shells, Madagascar nautilus fossils are prized for their smooth, simple curves and thicker shells. Both lived in the same ancient tropical seas around 120 million years ago, but while ammonites went extinct with the dinosaurs, these nautiluses are almost identical to the "living fossils" still swimming today. Because they are sturdier, Madagascar nautilus fossils are often polished to a high shine, revealing beautiful honey-coloured calcite inside their chambers.
