Rhodochrosite is a very attractive, rare pink-red crystal that gets its colour from manganese. It is the state gemstone of Colorado and the national gemstone of Argentina, which has the oldest Rhodochrosite mines in the world, dating back to the 13th Century with the Incas. This ancient civilisation called it the Inca Rose and believed that Rhodochrosite was the blood of their former kings and queens that had been turned to stone. The biggest Rhodochrosite crystal ever found is called the Alma King, and it is a stunning pink cubic crystal of around 15 cm from the Sweet Home mine in Colorado.
