Description
Unearthed from the fossil‑rich Kem Kem Beds of Morocco and dating back around 95 Million years to the Cretaceous, this small theropod tooth is often marketed as a “raptor” tooth, captivating for fossil enthusiasts young and old! However, current evidence suggests it most likely belongs to an Abelisaurid.
Abelisaurids appear to have filled the ecological “raptor niche” during the Late Cretaceous in northern Africa, and many online listings continue to use “raptor” for familiarity, just as we’ve done here. Perfect for display, education, or as a striking gift, you will receive the exact tooth pictured.
Why the “raptor” description?
This tooth exhibits visual traits colloquially linked to “raptor” fossils such as serrated edges, a narrow blade‑like form, but such identifiers are just hangovers from other simpler descriptions. The features of these teeth from Morocco being called 'Raptor' align more closely with Abelisaurids, particularly due to the straight posterior carina, a hallmark feature of this dinosaur group.
