Description

Wonderful Glendonite specimen from the Olenitsa River in the Kola Pennisula in Russia. You will receive the exact Glendonite pictured.

Glendonite is a rare variety of Calcite that forms as a pseudomorph after Ikaite. This happens as Ikaite is essentially a hydrated form of Calcite with added water, so when the Ikaite is exposed to temperatures above 8 degrees celcius, it starts to dehydrate and turn to Calcite. It was originally found in Glendon, Australia, from which it takes its name, but excellent specimens have since been found in Russia.
