Cyanotrichite is an unusual secondary copper mineral named from the Greek for 'blue' and 'hair', after it's fibrous bright blue appearance. As the crystals can be quite small, and often associated with other blue and green copper minerals, it can be hard to identify. It was first found in Romania in the late 1830s, although larger modern day deposits of good quality crystals can be found across Europe, China and the Western USA.
