Tanzanite

Tanzanite is a very rare crystal that is only found in the Merelani Hills in Tanzania and is mostly seen as a stunning violet-blue gem. Tanzanite is a Zoisite crystal that gets its colour from trace amounts of Vanadium. It was renamed 'Tanzanite' in 1968 by the jewellery giant Tiffany & Co, who were worried that the scientific name of Zoisite was too close to the English word 'suicide'.
