Chalcanthite does occur naturally, but is most often seen in lab grown specimens which are easily grown from copper sulphate solution. The name derives from the Greek for 'copper' and 'flower' due to it's copper content, and the fact it is found in oxidised copper deposits. Chalcanthite must be kept dry to prevent water damage, it is highly water soluble and toxic if ingested.
