This lovely Magnetite specimen is from the Zhelezyni Iron Mine in the Kola Peninsula, Russia. Due to it's location, it is very likely that this is infact the unusual variety known as "Magnomagnetite", which is Magnetite which has a high magnesium content. You will receive the exact Magnetite specimen pictured.
Magnetite is a key iron ore, and is the most magnetic of all minerals. Normal Magnetite is attracted to a magnet, but special Magnetite called Lodestone is actually magnetic itself and can attract other small magnetic objects. According to Greek legend, Magnetite was discovered by a wandering shepherd named Magnes who has his metal tipped cane become attracted to some mysterious black stones as if by magic.
