Description

Cool and unique fossilized wing bone from a Pterosaur (Sp. Indet) from the Cretaceous period, around 100 - 95 million years ago, that has kept its shape due to its hollow form being filled with sand during the fossilization process and so has resisted being crushed. Presented in a floating frame to keep the fossil secure, yet visible. You will receive the exact fossil as pictured.

Pterosaurs were ancient flying reptiles that ruled the skies during the time of the dinosaurs. With wingspans that ranged in size from just a few feet to over 30 feet in some giants, their bones had to be super light weight, and so were hollow like modern birds, specialized for flight. Pterosaurs are the earliest vertebrates known to have evolved an ability to employ powered flight!
