Description

This beautifully preserved tooth comes from a long-necked marine reptile known as a plesiosaur, and was found in the phosphate-rich beds of Morocco. These ancient seabeds have produced a treasure trove of marine fossils, and this tooth is a wonderful example, showcasing the sleek, conical and slightly recurved shape these predators used to catch slippery prey like fish and squid. It dates back to the Cretaceous era.

Although you’ll sometimes see these labeled with species names like Zarafasaura, isolated teeth like this can't be confidently matched to any one type of plesiosaur, so we simply call it what we know it is: a plesiosaur tooth. The tooth has great shape and enamel detail, with slight repair (they have been buried for millions of years, so we expect a little damage) making it perfect for display or education. You will receive the exact tooth shown.

Plesiosaurs were not dinosaurs, but marine reptiles that swam the prehistoric seas while dinosaurs roamed the land. They’re famous for their long necks, small heads, and broad flippers, which they used like underwater wings to glide gracefully through the water. Some species grew over 10 meters long!
