The flowers in Chrysanthemum Stone are formed of Calcite, Celestite, Andalusite or Feldspar, whilst the black base is usually Dolomite, Limestone or Porphyry. As such it does not have a defined chemical formula so cannot be classified as a mineral. These stones were formed at the bottom of the sea around 248 - 290 million years ago, during the Paleozoic era. They are the official stone of the Chinese Royal Family, and have long been considered a symbol of wealth by the Chinese people.
